How to choose a WhatsApp API provider: a quick checklist

Start from what you actually need, not the feature list. These questions shorten the comparison:

1. Connection: does the platform offer the official WhatsApp Business API, QR linking, or both with a path from one to the other?

2. Billing: do you pay in SAR and get a Saudi VAT invoice?

3. Users: how many staff are included, and what does an extra user cost?

4. Limits: is there a cap on conversations, contacts or campaigns?

5. Integrations: is there a ready app for Salla or Zid, or a link to your current system?

6. Added systems: do you need ZATCA invoicing, booking or loyalty cards alongside WhatsApp?

7. Support: in which language, during which hours, and through which channel?

If most answers are 'many channels, a large team, CRM integrations', global omnichannel platforms may suit you. If they are 'SAR, Arabic, Salla or Zid, and ZATCA', local platforms fit better, including Watily. Either way, try before you commit: most providers in our table offer a free trial or a demo, and ask for a written quote that lists every fee.

Total cost of ownership: subscription + users + Meta fees

The plan price alone is not enough. The real cost has three parts: the platform subscription, extra users or active contacts where they apply, and Meta's fee for every delivered message by category. According to Meta's SAR rate card effective 1 July 2026, a marketing message in Saudi Arabia costs 0.1877 SAR, a utility message 0.0401 SAR and an authentication message 0.0401 SAR.

From 1 October 2026, service messages inside the 24-hour window become billable at the utility rate after the first 1,000 free per phone number per month, while incoming customer messages stay free. Estimate your volume by type, calculate it with the WhatsApp API cost calculator, then add subscription and users — plus any systems you would buy separately, such as e-invoicing, booking or loyalty. See Watily plans for what each subscription includes.

Also watch each platform's billing unit: some count users, some monthly active contacts, and some campaigns or campaign messages. Two platforms with similar list prices can differ a lot in real cost depending on your team size and customer count, so model a typical month of your business rather than the headline plan price.

QR connect or the official API?

QR connect is the fastest way to start: you scan a code, WhatsApp stays live on your phone, and no commercial registration is needed. It works well for conversations, bots and notifications at modest volume. Its limits: no Meta-approved templates, no official business badge, and it is not suited to large marketing campaigns, because bulk sending over QR raises the risk of the number being restricted.

The official WhatsApp Business API requires a commercial registration and Meta verification, and gives you approved templates, campaigns at scale, interactive buttons and the official business badge, with the lowest restriction risk as you grow. Watily offers both: QR connect for a quick start, the official Meta API, coexistence that keeps the WhatsApp Business app running on your phone, or connection via a Facebook Business Portfolio — and you can start on QR and move to the official API when you need campaigns. Official API activation typically takes 24–72 hours. Official rates are published on Meta's developer pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best WhatsApp Business platform in Saudi Arabia?

There is no single answer for every business. Global platforms such as Respond.io and Wati are stronger on channels and global integrations; local platforms such as Watily, Widers and WSLA fit better on SAR, Arabic, Salla and Zid. Define your needs with the checklist above, then compare.

What is the cheapest WhatsApp API platform in Saudi Arabia?

Among the platforms in our table, Watily starts at 49 SAR/month, Javna's Salla app at 95 SAR, Widers at 299 SAR and WSLA at 575 SAR, while Wati and Respond.io start in USD. Remember that Meta fees and extra users come on top.

Are Meta fees included in platform subscriptions?

For the platforms we compared, Meta message fees are separate from the subscription. Some state they add no markup, such as Respond.io and Widers, and Watily passes Meta fees at Meta's official rate.

What's the difference between the official WhatsApp API and QR linking?

QR connect is faster to start and needs no commercial registration; it suits conversations, bots and notifications at modest volume. The official API needs a commercial registration and unlocks approved templates, large campaigns and the business badge with the lowest restriction risk. Watily offers both and lets you move from QR to the official API.

Can I move my number between platforms?

Yes. On the official API, the number is disconnected from the current provider, connected to the new one and re-verified, which typically takes 24–72 hours, with templates re-approved. If you want to start right away, you can connect the number to Watily via QR. Chat history does not move between providers automatically.

What changes in WhatsApp pricing from 1 October 2026?

Per Meta, service messages inside the 24-hour window become billable at the utility rate after the first 1,000 free per number per month, and incoming customer messages stay free. A payment method must be added in Meta Billing Hub by 30 September 2026.
